How to get your bike to UpwayUpdated 2 days ago
In this guide, you will know how to get your bike depending on your handover method.
When you sell your bike to Upway, you can choose between different handover options (depending on your location and the kind of bike you’re selling to Upway).
Once you accept our offer, you’ll reach the "Choose bike handover method" step, where you can pick the one that suits you best:
Each option comes with a few simple requirements to make sure everything goes smoothly and that the check-in at Upway (when we verify that your bike matches the information you provided) is fast and accurate.

Boxed pickup at home
Our logistics partner will collect your bike in a box on the day of the pick-up.
Step 1 — Place your bike in a suitable box
It’s essential to ensure that the box is smaller than the maximum 165 inches in length plus girth (Length + 2*width + 2*height) allowed to be shipped with our logistics partners. A larger box may trigger an expensive additional fee.
Where to find one if you don’t have it
You can order a box from Upway for $25 through a separate process (link to box).
Or ask a nearby bike shop to provide one or help you pack your bike (some bike shops discard boxes for free because they take space).
Here’s a guide how to assemble your Upway shipping box as a video and as a written guide
Most bikes only need two quick adjustments. In most cases, you can fit the bike in the box by:
Removing the pedals
Removing the front wheel
Removing the handlebar
Here’s a video on how to disassemble your bike, and an additional video on how to package your e-bike
Step 2 — Protect the bike
Find light protection material that you have available (cardboard, newspapers, bubble wrap, foam, etc), and use it to protect the most sensitive parts: the display, remote controller, battery, and derailleur. Upway provides insurance for all shipments, so any damage during shipping won’t affect the purchase price, but protective material is still required for all shipments.
Step 3 — Add the bike ID
Write the identification number sent to you by email on a paper, and stick it somewhere visible (on the frame, for example).
Step 4 — Include the required items inside the box
🔑 Keys
🔌 Charger
🔋 Battery
💡 Best practice:
Place keys + charger in a strong plastic bag and securely attach it to the frame with a zip tie or strong tape.
For removable displays, if applicable, it is best to wrap them and place them in the bag with the other items. This will ensure they are safer and prevent them from falling.
🚨 Important: If the bike is registered on an app like Bosch Flow, Specialized App, Fazua app (and others), you do need to unpair the bike. This makes the verification quicker and helps you get paid faster.
Step 5 — Take proof photos before closing the box
Take photos of the bike inside the box before closing / giving it to the driver.
Ensure all items are visible and the bike ID can be seen.
These photos act as proof if a problem arises at check-in or if something is missing.
Step 6 — Close and reinforce the box
Use strong tape in different directions (length and width).
Reinforce the bottom with extra tape to support the weight of the bike.
Step 7 — You are ready to give your bike to the transporter
Unboxed pickup at home
Unboxed pick-ups are currently available in areas around New York City & Los Angeles, but we're constantly adding new locations to support unboxed logistics. If unboxed pick-ups are available for your zipcode, you'll see a pop-up in our website to inform you of this. Our driver will collect your bike on the day of the pick-up (no box required from you).

If you don’t
The bike is insured by Upway during transport, so any damage due to transport will not impact the price but using protection material significantly reduces the risk of damage and ensures a safer journey for your bike.
