How to get your e-Bike ready for Freight Shipping?Updated 5 months ago

In order to ship your e-bike via freight shipping, you will need to slightly disassemble it by taking off the pedals and turning the handle bar, before packing it carefully.

Disassemble your e-Bike

In this video, Collin, one of Upway’s senior bike mechanics, demonstrates how to disassemble your e-bike for freight shipping.

Step 1: Removing the Pedals

To disassemble the bike for freight shipping, the first step is to remove the pedals.

  • Using a pedal wrench or an adjustable wrench, turn each pedal towards the back of the bike. This will be counterclockwise for the right pedal, and clockwise for the left pedal.
  • Once loosened, carefully unscrew and remove both pedals from their respective crank arms. Keep track of any washers or spacers that may be present. Store the pedals securely for transportation or in their original packaging if available.

Step 2: Turn the Handlebars

  • Start by loosening the bolts or screws on the stem, located at the front of the bike where the handlebar attaches to the frame. This will allow you to adjust the handlebar freely.
  • Carefully align the handlebar with the frame, ensuring it is centered and aligned with the front wheel.
  • Once aligned, tighten the bolts or screws securely using the included allen key. Ensure the handlebar is firmly fixed in place and there is no movement.

Pack your e-Bike

Here is Alessandro, head of purchasing for Upway USA, explaining how to pack your 99% assembled e-bike.
